Why do people make directories?

Ive never used a directory, and never made one, but i have submitted sites i used to own to directories, only for the backlinks.

Other than the above reason, ive NEVER used a directory, and i actually think their rather useless...

What do you guys think?

Directories have been spammed all over the internet in the last two years and almost any kid does own a directory in these days. There are many free scripts in which make you able to install a directory in a an hour or two.

Most of the directories owners establish there directories to make a profit from them, thinking its an easy way to make some profit by installing the script and the payment options and set back and wait for cash, but most directories end up being sold or project go dead after these owners realize that establishing a directory and maintaining it is not easy in anyway or aspect of it.

However the good directories which have good owners behind are still there resisting this miss.

By submitting your site in directories you will find backlinks and also some traffic from them. But you can say in these days directory submission less advantages. But it is also has some importance.

Yeah i knew you can get backlinks and a little bit of traffic, but ive never used a directory, and dont know anyone that has, id never go into a directory to find a site, id just google it or something lol.

i agree with it, but there might be people who go into a directory too
otherwise how do u think they getting all the traffic?

I would use a directory if it was likely that it would be online for a long time and if it was related to my website.

I also used directory. Directory is very useful for getting traffic and increasing Page Rank. because it helps in link development.

I've never really used a directory because the sites I run are usually just hobbies so I'm more focused on content creation than actually getting people to the site... I suppose getting people to view the content would be nice too though.

hey synchar you are right but I think you should work on directory. It will help you for getting traffic on your site and also help in link development.
