Code by Contract
Ok, I am working at a web development company. A client is now angry and threatning with a lawsuit because we probably ain't going to finish their project in time (probably a week or 2 later).
Can we do anything about it? Anyone has experience? What can they do?

I would say it depends on your contract but 1-2 weeks would never make sense with regards to a lawsuit... unless there is a well known loss in case of a delay at the client side clearly stated in the agreement and if you agreed to take a part in the risk related to not being ready in time.
This is over by now I guess - hope you delivered and ended up with a happy client in the end.

We gave the client the design for free, we are crazy!!!
But we didn't want to get in trouble or get any lawsuit against us... Damn.. still not happy with the outcome..
We just gave it for free

OMG... this is not fair. However the key thing to learn from stories like this is to have a good contract protecting against something like this. I'm not a lawyer so giving any advise would be wrong, however I thinks there are indeed ways to shield ourselves against situations like this. First of all I think it is a good idea to invest one time in having a lawyer assist in creating a document you can attach to agreements covering terms and conditions for the consultancy work you are doing. If done in the right way you should limit the possibilities for anyone to come after you in case something is not working out as it should.
Good luck going forward!

Thanks invendio. I know we should have a lawyer and contracts etc. But we are in our startup time, no big money to spend on that. Still sucks though
