Post Setting Up An FTP Account for Your Dedicated Hosting

Even though dedicated hosting can be great fun, many people find that the time it takes to upload a site can be a draining activity. Thankfully there are many different ways to upload your site to a web hosting account and if you have not heard about FTP, which stands for File Transfer Protocol, you probably need to think about this now. Your control panel is the gateway to making your life easier.

Once inside your control panel and looking for the FTP option, you will need to know the FTP hostname and address as well as knowing what your domain name is. This information is collated in the information you should have received when setting your dedicated hosting account but if not, feel free to contact your provider for further details. As no two control panels are the same, there may be separate issues for each user.

You will be asked if you are looking to include a Start directory, the response should be to leave it blank or to use a single forward slash. The next comes in being asked to enter a FTP port and the response should be “standard” or “21″. This will see you almost at the finish line for uploading a site to your dedicated hosting site but there is one last requirement to have access to FTP client software or a web design software package that can do this for you.

Making life as easy as possible is definitely something that dedicated hosting users should look out for and there is no doubt that using FTP will save a lot of time and effort for any user.
