I think they can do it, but they don't spend enough on marketing at the moment.
The big + (hehe) of Google + are the circles. This is really a good point and really makes a lot of sense. You don't want to share everything with everyone...

The idea is good and if anyone can get it off the ground, then Google can. It will probably become massive in a few months time.

True, but it will never beat facebook. It can beat LinkedIN though if they focus on work / employees / employers
