What do you pay for a unique design?
So what do you pay for a unique design for your website? I am not paying more than $300 for new website designs or it should be a real good & new product that i'm starting up.
What do you normally spend on a new design? And do you think you should need a new & unique design? instead of a free theme?

It really depends on what you are looking for and how hard it will be. You can get very good designs for just under $100, but some might go well over $1000 as well.

There are many free css / html5 template sites out there that offers free themes. I barely design something on my own or pay anyone.
I am adjusting themes and use them for anything

Ok, fair enough. I use free templates too on new sites, but if they are getting big, I rather have something unique.

I agree thats a better selling point in the end, but no more than that

If its a big project, you can spend more, if you want to try something out, keep it cheap

The very best looking template in the world is the very worst template you can use, because everyone else is already using it. If your design is unique it's a better for u & u'r business.

I always create unique designs for my clients. The most cost effective site I have charged so far was $500 for a six page site. I had to create the their logo, created three different mockups for his site, and then did the coding. I really feel that creating a unique site is beneficial to a client because you can focus on branding their company.

There are some obvious dangers to using a template, like malicious coding and such, but there is another, not so obvious danger. What if your template causes your blog to vanish into the blogosphere? What if it makes you boring?
The very best looking template in the world is the very worst template you can use, because everyone else is already using it. If your blog does not stand out from the dozens of others in your niche, how will your readers remember you? And if they do not remember you, why will they come back?
