You can get the effect of back links until or unless it disappeared or removed. It will be great if this links come with Do Follow attribute.

When I use Google to check for backlinks, they don't show.
Google only shows a random set of links. So don't depend on Google to show you everything they know because they don't.

Google refreshes their index several times a month. They've become really good about fresh results.
