Good question actually! I am not sure, but I think .info domains is mostly for informative / educational sites...which people don`t invest too much money in. It is supposed to be for small, presentation sites I guess..
Can't think of something else right now!

I think .COMS are better for indexing on search engines thats the only reason i know of
-
But it isnt that .info sites do not do good business.
For example Check Cyberwarez.info,it has an .info extension but still its one of the most famous warez forums.
So i do stick with .info domains when i want to start a new project and then shift to a .com domain if the necessity is felt.

I think its probably just happened.
Someone probably started it and it just carried on to all domain sites.

Yes they are, ask yourself how many .info sites do you go to consistently compared to .com? .com is still king I think

The .info domains are sort of a limited purpose domain type. They were intended to be used strictly for informational purposes. There is a lot left to interpretation. Some of the domain registration sites might have a more well defined definition.

Personally I don't own any .info names, only own 2 domains though.. but was just questioning.. ?
Remember that they are cheap only for first year when you register your domain, the next year the same charges would be levied.

True man, it's kind of the same deal with .ORG, they mainly intended for non profit organizations but several sites don't use for this, and might suffer because of it
