Choosing A Profitable Niche
It has come to my attention that some of you are wondering how to find a profitable niche. Thought I'd throw my .02 out.
The most important thing to focus on when looking for a niche to promote, is keywords.
There are 2 kinds of websites that will make you some money: an Adsense-type site or a product-promoting site.
The Adsense-type site displays Adsense (and/or other advertising) in the hopes that your visitors will click on the ads. While it is still necessary to provide content for this type of site, the goal is to NOT give so much valuable content that the visitor goes away, satisfied with the amount of information they received. You want them to click on your ads. If your site does not fulfill all their needs, they will be more inclined to click on something that looks interesting to them.
The other type of site promotes products, whether something you own, affiliate products or whatever. With this type of site, getting targeted traffic is the most important task.
So, getting the right kind of traffic for each type of site is important.
In the case of the Adsense-type site, you will want to find keywords that have high pay-per-click payouts. The way to find these kind of keywords is to find out what the average Adwords customer is paying for those clicks.
You can use the free tool at Spyfu.com to find out what folks are paying for clicks on their ads based on their chosen keywords.
For example, for these keywords, advertisers are paying:
"motorcycle" - .54 to 1.60
but for "motorcycle loans" - 1.08 to 8.43
Since you will receive a portion of that money whenever someone clicks on that ad served on your site, you might want to target the more expensive keyword. Between the two choices, you might want to build a site about motorcycle loans/financing.
However, final niche determination will depend upon the amount of competition that exists for that niche.
For the other type of website, you will want to find the keywords that are getting the most searches for the product you have in mind to sell. Using Google's external keyword tool, you can enter a basic keyword (one that pertains to your product) and see what comes up. Be sure to check the section at the bottom, too, because it will have keywords suggestions that you can work with, as well.
Check the stats for number of searches. The "local search volume" and "global search volume" are the numbers you want to look at.
BTW, "local" pertains to whatever country your computer is in and global, of course, is worldwide.
You want searches that are above 2,000/month.
These are just the basics. Read everything you can find, subscribe to some of the newsletters and blogs about this subject for more information.

A VERY profitable niche right now that I know of is weight loss products. If you have an afilliate marketing link to use for some pills sales you can make several dollars each click through sale. My friend did this and it's working great for him.

Real estate niche seems to be a profitable one in the sense that it is much sought after by the web masters these days. I do not know whether it is trend change.
