Notepad++ - When I used to code, and I'm upset I don't any more. I used NotePad++ because I would see red text when I forgot a tag. I never liked doing it with Dreamweaver because I find it harder to customize.

    Just some thoughts,

I started out using just notepad. Later on I moved on to Frontpage and now I use Expression Web (as a student, I can get it free). I love Expression Web well enough but depending on the project I'll still go back to notepad if I'm intending to just straight up code the whole thing and not use a visual editor. I've never used Dreamweaver, believe it or not.

I use notepad++ and frontpage because they shows the fonts in different colors. For every single open tag and close tag it shows in different color.that's why i like to use it very much and often.

Depends. If you're interested in buying it then go here. If you're a student you can get it free for a year here. Otherwise, if you're a student but want to buy it (so you can use it for more than a year) check with your school to see if they offer any discounts.

The free for a year deal is Microsoft's DreamSpark program. If you're a student and you've not checked this out, you're missing out. You can get all kinds of free software.

My favorite HTML editor is Dreamweaver and I always use it to edit HTML. I love this software and it is the best software I ever used. I think that here most of the people will prefer Dreamweaver.

I personally just use a basic text editor as that works for me.
